Missio Dei
Missio Dei is a Latin term used by theologians to refer to God's work in the world. Literally, this term can be translated both as the "Mission of God" and the "sending of God." Our God is on the move; He is on a mission. Jesus said in John 10:10 that the reason He came was so that we could experience life in all its fullness. Later in John 20:21 He explained that in the same way He had been sent by the Father, He also sends us.
Our church's vision is to love the Lord our God with all of our heart, soul, mind and strength and to love our neighbors like we love ourselves. Our mission, as you can read in the column to the left, is to glorify God by helping people come to know Jesus Christ and grow in their relationship with Him. This is our purpose and our passion. It's who we are and what we do. This is why we exist.
Our mission, our sense of identity and activity, is not something that we as a church just made up. This is God's idea because this is His mission. And because it is His mission and we are His people, it's also our mission. I hope you will join us in these early weeks of 2012 as we explore what it means to join God on mission.
