For even the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many. (Mark 10:45)
Like the other Gospel writers, Mark focuses on the life and ministry of Jesus. But each of these these Christ followers wrote from their own perspective. Much of the distinctions we see in the Gospel accounts are related to the writer's personality, literary style, his primary audience and the circumstances under which he wrote. Mark wrote the first of our Gospels in the late 60's or 70's. His primary audience was the very first believers, many of whom were Gentiles. He wrote to encourage them in the midst of difficult trials and persecution.
Mark's Gospel is also an encouragement to us as we face the challenges of life. I hope you will join us in the coming weeks as we explore this reMARKable Gospel.
Sincerely Yours In Christ,
Dan Sowell
